Local Contractors Heat the Town
Volunteer their services for needy homeowners
Dayton OH, November 2, 2009 – In conjunction with Rebuilding Together Dayton, members of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) Greater Dayton Chapter held Heat the Town on Saturday, October 24. During the day, technicians provided HVAC service for 40 elderly, low-income residents throughout the Dayton area.
Each home received maintenance checks and equipment cleaning. Filters were changed and parts were installed to have all the furnaces ready for the cold winter months. Two furnaces that were out of service were replaced. All time and materials were donated by participating ACCA contractors and associates.
Technicians from seven area HVAC companies, all of which are ACCA members, volunteered their services. Companies participating were Airtron, B&K Heating, Detmer & Sons, Ed’s Heating & Cooling, McAfee Heating & Air, Tanner Heating & Air, and Wm. Brockman & Sons.
In addition, several associate ACCA members donated the parts and materials needed to make any necessary repairs. Those companies participating were 2-J Supply, Allied Supply, Corken Steel Products, The Habegger Corporation, Honeywell, Johnstone Corporation and Lennox Industries.
According to Amy Radachi, President and CEO of Rebuilding Together Dayton, the volunteer efforts were life-saving in some cases. For example, one furnace had to be shut off due to a clogged flue. The homeowners had been suffering from headaches and Howard Rambo of Rambo’s Plumbing replaced the flue liner the following week. “Our organization is so grateful for the efforts of the ACCA members. They helped many needy homeowners,” said Radachi.
WHIOTV and radio was the host site for the event.
